BioImaging
Using state-of-the-art optical and electrophysiological methods like fast confocal calcium imaging, 2-photon microscopy or patch clamp recordings we focus on two main scientific questions:
What are the cellular mechanisms of learning and memory? We are especially interested to understand how the connection strength between neurons can be modulated. This so-called synaptic plasticity is considered to be the cellular basis of learning and memory in the brain.
What are the characteristics of neuronal network activity under physiological and pathophysiological conditions? We want to understand how neuronal networks in the brain process sensory information and which mechanisms disturb the processing during neurological diseases like epilepsy or stroke.
