Worldwide, every 4 seconds a person dies from sepsis. Still, sepsis remains hardly known or misunderstood as “blood poisoning”. If not diagnosed early and treated promptly, sepsis can lead to shock, multi-organ failure and death.
The World Sepsis Day on 13 September aims at increasing Sepsis awareness and thus facilitating early diagnosis and successful treatment.
Every year in September, Jena-based organizations, research and medical institutions jointly organize local activities and events on the occasion of World Sepsis Day on September 13. Examples from recent years are listed below.
A short film contest called for creative examination of sepsis and to turn selected topics into short movies or clips.
The award ceremony took place on 13 September 2017. The program also offered general information on sepsis, local research activities and support available for sepsis survivors and their relatives.
A workshop for school classes and teachers informed about sepsis and basics of shooting for a movie.
The event was designed to prepare for the contests in 2017 and 2018.
Jena’s park "Paradies" turned pink for one day. With information booths and games for kids, local organizations explained sepsis and answered questions on prevention, treatment and current research.
