Habilitation
Habilitation at the Friedrich-Schiller-University is conducted on the legal basis of the Habilitation Procedure of the Friedrich-Schiller University Jena. In the formal request for opening the review process you must confirm by signature that you have taken notice of and accept the modalities described therein. The specific provisions for the Medical faculty can be found in appendix 1 of this document.
The prerequisites for opening the Habilitation procedure include the following:
- Teaching medicine at university level
- Participation in didactic training for university lecturers (as offered by training programs of the University (Lehre Lernen) or Jena University Hospital (dean's office of students)

- Sworn Declaration (statement of authorship and honest scientific practice)
- Guidelines for preparation of cumulative habilitation papers
Calculation of the weighted impact factor (gIF):
Many journals have an impact factor (IF), which is updated annually. Also, each of these journals is assigned a subject category (e.g., anesthesiology). For the total number of magazines in a category, an average impact factor (mIF) per year is determined. (Information on the average impact factor can be found on the website of the isi web of science)
The weighted impact factor (gIF) is calculated as follows:
gIF = IF / mIF
For this calculation you must take into account the impact factor of journal in the year of publication of your work and the average impact factor for this year.
