Medical Optics and Photonics
Optical and photonic technologies are essential tools in biomedical research. This includes microscopy techniques that allow a view on structures an processes in the living cell, such as receptor mechanisms. For diagnosis, a variety of spectroscopic methods are used or under development, as well as optical technologies in therapy, for example in ophthalmology.
Research groups at JUH, or alliances JUH scientists are involved in:
- CRC/TR 166 ReceptorLight
High-end light microscopy techniques with highest spatial and time resolution are applied and further developed to gain deeper insight into the function of membrane receptors. Following the binding of so-called ligands, membrane receptors generate signals that control the cells of an organism in a multifaceted manner. - Jena Biophotonic and Imaging Laboratory
The Core Facility unifies spectroscopic and spectrometric techniques and devices present at the respective facilities in Jena. The aim is to provide national and international scientists expert-supported access to multimodal spectrometric and spectroscopic techniques for the analysis of cells and tissue. - FOR 2518 DynIon
The Research Unit combines experimental and computational strategies to study functional dynamics of ion channels and transporters.
