The aim of this research project is to develop of a foamable synthetic material for the treatment of periodontal and periimplant bone lesions. Further the material is thought to stabilize teeth. In addition it should be provided with an antibacterial component for the suppression of residual bacteria of the lesion in order to prevent the re-infection
Subproject of MESINFLAME: Integrative preclinical strategies for targeting the local mesenchyme as a regulator of tissue specificity in inflammatory musculoskeletal disorders

Periodontitis is a bacterial-induced inflammatory disease of tooth-supporting tissue that is characterized by progressive loss of bone and periodontal attachment. The project aims to identify key mesenchymal signaling pathways that induce inflammatory bone loss. Further, we want to localize therapeutic targets within the mesenchyme that could be used to modulate and potentially reverse the onset and extent of tissue loss.
