ThIMEDOP combines the technological strengths of our region in optics and photonics with the clinical focus of the UKJ in sepsis research and ageing research by developing technical, photonic-optical and clinical-experimental oriented methods and systems for early detection, diagnosis, therapy and rehabilitation. The Innovation Center is a cooperation between UKJ, TU Ilmenau and IPHT Jena and is embedded in the profile lines of the FSU Jena Light and Life as well as in the research cluster Technical and Biomedical Assistance Systems of the TU Ilmenau. ThIMEDOP represents an anchor point as a comprehensive training and further education offer for university and technical college personnel.

Innovation center ThIMEDOP

ThIMEDOP provides a platform for a continuous professional dialogue between clinicians, scientists and industry to identify innovative technologies and procedures for diagnosis and therapy of, for example, strongly age-related diseases. The innovation centre serves to strengthen research along the value chain, starting with improving the possibility of designing and carrying out application-oriented joint research projects, through to prototyping, pilot studies and practical patient-related evaluation.

Morpho-TOX

Scientists from UKJ, TU Ilmenau and Leibniz-IPHT develop a research platform to characterize cellular reactions to toxic drugs based on cell morphology and modern optical methods.

SARS-rapid

Scientists from UKJ, TU Ilmenau and Leibniz-IPHT investigate virus-cell interactions of the recently described SARS corona virus to develop new diagnostic methods based on optical technologies.

CeTraMed: A new research centre for translational medicine

The centre for translational medicine – CeTraMed – is a recently built innovative research centre of Jena University Hospital and the new home for the ThIMEDOP innovation centre. This new building offers 3800 m2 effective research area and will be the home for 14 research groups from 2022 onwards. Scientists from UKJ, TU Ilmenau and Leibniz-IPHT will work on ageing and associated diseases to find new diagnostic and treatment options based on modern biophotonical methods.
