The research group Functional Proteomics was established in December 2019 and focuses on the identification and quantification of proteins in biological and clinical specimens. The aim of these investigations is a deeper understanding of health and disease at the molecular level in order to better tailor therapeutic strategies to individual patients in the future. As part of the ThIMEDOP project, a latest-generation high-performance mass spectrometer was purchased in 2020 to pursue this goal.

Functional and clinical proteomics

Aberrations in the proteome and cellular signaling pathways are hallmarks of many diseases, including cancer. Our research focuses on developing new technologies to increase throughput, sensitivity, and coverage of proteomic analyses. In particular, we are investigating the application of ion mobility spectrometry for the quantification of proteins and their post-translational modifications in patient-derived cells, biofluids, and tissue samples.
