Besides the gold standard of quantitative PCR, new technologies found their way into the CML diagnostic. The EUTOS consortium had managed the task to establish and test new diagnostic methods like Digital PCR and Genomic PCR for their potential, as well as to standardize the Next Generation Sequencing method as a routinely used diagnostic tool for BCR-ABL mutation screening. For this reason EUTOS project groups working strongly together to find out if the Digital PCR method provides more accurate results, an improved limit of detection (LoD) and limit of quantitation (LoQ) for BCR-ABL diagnostic. Moreover the combination of Digital PCR with the Genomic PCR method would probably promote more accurate diagnostic on stem cell levels and could be a the first step to develop new PCR strategies for each individual patient. However new established methods are used to investigate BCR-ABL related as well as independent gene mutations.
