Human genetic practical course (molecular gentic and molecular-cytogenetic part) Dr. Mrasek, PD Dr. Liehr, Dr. Weise, Dr. Glaser
The following internship is offered at the Institute of Human Genetics:
Human genetic practical course (2 weeks)
The human genetic internship for biologists consists of a (molecular) cytogenetic week and a molecular genetic week. 2 x 3 students can take part. The internship takes place twice a year (usually 11 + 12 KW and 38 + 39 KW). 5.3 SWS are credited.
Requirements are internship experience and the lecture "Molecular Human Genetics".
In this internship, in contrast to basic genetic courses, you will be familiarized with techniques that can be used for diagnostics on humans.
In the molecular-cytogenetic part, this ranges from chromosome preparation and the laying of (own) karyograms to FISH, M-FISH and multicolor banding. Chromosome microdissection is also shown.
In the molecular genetic part, you will be familiarized with PCR-based methods (e.g. array CGH, sequencing, microsatellite analyzes), which are used in routine diagnostics. The different methods are explained using examples of different genetic diseases.
For this internship, please register with Prof. Aria Baniahmad via e-mail.
Because of the Corona situation, the internship takes place virtually.
For this purpose, material is made available - the individual parts of the internship are only passed if a protocol or an examination is submitted / taken. For more information, see the individual internship parts.
