Prof. Gert Kwakkel is dedicated to translational research in the field of neurorehabilitation with special interest in Stroke, Parkinsons’ Disease and Multiple Sclerosis. In particular he is interested in the role of neuroplasticity and behavioral mechanisms for stroke recovery. He is the initiator of the EXPLICIT-stroke program running in the Netherlands since 2008. Prof. Kwakkel has recently been acknowledged as one of the top-researchers of the VU Medical Centre. He has published more than 150 papers in leading scientific journals and delivered more than 50 invited keynote lectures worldwide. He is a member of the editorial board of the International Journal of Stroke, Journal Rehabilitation Medicine and Physiotherapy Research International. Professor Kwakkel is also President of the Dutch Society of NeuroRehabilitation responsible for the Physical Therapy Stroke Guidelines in The Netherlands.
