Research in the field of ageing medicine in Jena
In the science landscape of Jena, research and expertise in the area of ageing is concentrated within the smallest space. The topic ageing and ageing-related diseases is a defined focus of the Faculty of Medicine, Friedrich Schiller University Jena, the Leibniz Institute on Aging – Fritz Lipmann Institute (FLI) as well as various research associations. This enables a close, interdisciplinary and cross-institutional cooperation of scientists and thus offers an excellent research environment.
The Else Kröner Promotionskolleg JSAM integrates in the existing scientific infrastructure on the topic ageing in Jena:
Jena Centre for Healthy Ageing (CHA)
- Established by the Medical Faculty of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena
- Coordination of structured research-oriented qualification programs for Clinician Scientist (Else Kröner Forschungskolleg AntiAge, Else Kröner Promotionskolleg JSAM)
- Goal: pooling and promoting research, teaching activities and medical care of the faculty in the field of ageing and ageing research
International Jena School for Molecular Medicine (JSMM)
- As an interdisciplinary umbrella organization it comprises the six graduate programs:
the graduate program Experimental Medicine organized by the Interdisciplinary Center of Clinical Research (IZKF) of the Jena University Hospital, the research training group of the Center for Sepsis Control & Care (CSCC-RTG), the DFG research training groups RTG 2155 ProMoAge and RTG 1715 Adaptive Stress Responses, the Leibniz Graduate School on Ageing and Age-Related Diseases (LGSA) of the Leibniz Institute on Ageing - Fritz Lipmann Institute (FLI) and the Jena School for Ageing Medicine (JSAM) funded by the Else Kröner-Fresenius-Stiftung
Leibniz Institute on Aging – Fritz Lipmann Institute (FLI)
- First national research institute in Germany focusing on biomedical research on human aging
- Coordination of structured research-oriented qualification programs for doctoral students (Leibniz Graduate School on Aging, LGSA) and postdocs (Postdoc Network "Aging-induced impairments of regeneration and stem cell functionality – RegenerAging", SAW 2015)
Aging Research Center (ARC) Jena
- Transfaculty center of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena
- Combining representatives of various disciplines and creating a platform for interdisciplinary collaborative projects on local and supraregional level
- Goal: Improving the health of older people as well as autonomous life in old age
Leibniz ScienceCampus "Regenerative Aging"
- Umbrella structure for support of research into ageing
- Close cooperation of the Leibniz Institute on Aging - Fritz Lipmann Institute (FLI) with the Jena University Hospital (UKJ), the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Biology/Pharmacy and the Faculty of Mathematics/Informatics of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena as well as the company Carl Zeiss Jena
- Goal: Analysis of age-related (organ) dysfunctions and diseasesas
