Being the only University Hospital in Thuringia the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery/ Plastic Surgery covers the whole field of this specialty. Our services include primary and secondary facial trauma care, including complex reconstruction of hard and soft tissue as well as temporo mandibular joint (TMJ) reconstruction, head and neck cancer surgery including functional and esthetic reconstruction employing microvascular tissue transfer, treatment of cleft lip and palate patients as well as craniofacial malformations, orthognathic surgery as well as oral surgery. Besides patients care, the medical expert stuff at our department is involved in students education as well as clinical research. In cooperation with neighboring specialties our ambulance provides interdisciplinary diagnostic services, treatment and treatment planning to the outpatients and inpatients population of the University Hospital Jena. We guarantee excellent treatment based on the latest research and profound experience in case of injury, congenital or acquired malformation as well as all other pathologies in the head and neck region.
Special Offers/ Arrangements/ Rooms
All patient rooms feature WLAN, telephone, TV, a small balcony and a wheelchair-accessible bath room. Four single rooms with a private bath room are accessible. Diagnostic services
Our department offers a full range of up to date diagnostic services. Interdisciplinary cooperation between the different specialties at the University Hospital Jena allows for detailed diagnosis and treatment planning in case of pathologies in the head and neck region.
Therapeutic services
Special consultation hours for head and neck cancer, bisphosphonate induced osteo necorsis of the jaw, temoporo mandibular joint (TMJ) disorders, dysgnathia, plastic and reconstructive surgery as well as oral implantology are offered weekly.
In case of advanced head and neck cancer primary reconstruction is routinely performed during the same operation. All reconstructive methods, including microvascular tissue transfer, are established. After completion of primary, multimodal cancer treatment oral rehabilitation by means of endosteal, dental implants is offered. Besides, primary traumatology secondary corrective surgery focusing on the correction of scars as well as malposition of bone is offered. Furthermore, temporo mandibular joint (TMJ) surgery is performed with a particular focus on reconstructive techniques employing autogenous materials like ear cartilage.
Our interdisciplinary cleft lip and palate center offers a variety of treatment options aiming at functional and esthetic rehabilitation, which provides the potential for a physiologic development of the cleft lip and palate patient.
For dysgnathia our department offers analysis, treatment planning and surgery i n cooperation with the referring orthodontist. Dentoalveolar and implantologic, surgical services are provided as well. Our department provides the complete range of plastic and esthetic surgery.
