Prof Strauß was appointed the head of department of the Institute of Medical Psychology (which was later renamed to “Institute of Psychosocial Medicine and Psychotherapy”) on 1^st October 1996. He was awarded a professorship in medical psychology and psychotherapy by the Thuringian Ministry of Science and Culture in 1997 and has been overseeing the modules for medical psychology, medical sociology, and psychosomatic medicine and psychotherapy ever since.
