The site serves to provide an overview of the clinical services and current scientific research undertaken in the Hans-Berger-Department of Neurology and Experimental Neurology.
The Department of Neurology offers patients a wide spectrum of contemporary clinical, diagnostic, and therapeutic services as well as the possibility of participating in one of several ongoing clinical trials for epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, and stroke.
The Department also houses several Speciality Areas such as the Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorder Centre, Multiple Sclerosis Centre, Headache Centre, the Neuromuscular Centre, Epilepsy Centre as well as a Sleep Laboratory. In the Experimental Neurology Laboratory, a number of research groups are involved in exploring various aspects of the nervous system ranging from molecular neurobiology to the modern technique of neuroimaging.
The present-day department has a long-standing tradition in the field of patient-care, research and teaching that was established at the turn of the 20th century by the famous Jena neurologists Otto Binswanger and Hans-Berger. Currently, more than 80 staff, consisting of physicians, health-care workers, scientists, and technicians are engaged in the treatment and research of diverse neurological diseases.
