The RTG 2155 ProMoAge is a DFG-funded graduate programme, which is focusing on posttranslational modifications (PTM) of cellular proteins as key players in ageing. It combines research groups from the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, the Friedrich Schiller University Jena, the University Hospital Jena and the Leibniz Institute on Aging – Fritz Lipmann Institute (FLI) Jena.

ProMoAge supports life science and medical doctoral researchers. The core research idea is to test the hypothesis that PTM are key contributors to cellular ageing and to age-related organ dysfunction. All subprojects address this hypothesis in an interdisciplinary approach. The research programme constitutes an excellent scaffold to qualify doctoral researchers for a future career in ageing research. In addition to innovative scientific projects, a multifaceted qualification programme including state-of-the-art methodological platforms and high-quality training in theoretical and practical aspects of ageing research is provided. Our long-term goal is to apply our newly gained knowledge on the role of PTMs in cellular and molecular processes to clinical medicine.
