Um lebende Materie wie Zellen besser zu verstehen und somit Krankheiten besser behandeln zu können, müssen wir verstehen, wie Moleküle und Zellen miteinander interagieren. Wichtig ist, dass wir die dahinter stehende Physik, d. h. die Biophysik, verstehen. Hierfür sind Wissenschaftler auf hochempfindliche und nicht-invasive Analysetechniken angewiesen, darunter die Fernfeld-Fluoreszenzmikroskopie. Das Ziel unserer Gruppe für superauflösende Mikroskopie ist es, optimierte Beobachtungstechniken bereitzustellen, um molekulare und zelluläre Interaktionen, insbesondere an Membranen, genauer zu verstehen. Um dies zu erreichen, müssen wir die Unzulänglichkeiten der bestehenden Techniken kennen lernen und herausfinden, wie wir sie überwinden können. Die Gruppe tut dies durch mehrere kollaborative zellbiologische und biomedizinische Forschungsprojekte.
