- 23.04.2020
Master courses "Molecular Medicine" of the Faculty of Medicine (UKJ/FSU) and "Molecular and Cellular Medicine" of the IRCM/Université de Montréal (Canada) start the contractually agreed student exchange.
Jena/Montréal:
Despite the corona crisis, the Université de Montréal this year admitted a foreign student for the master's course "Molecular and Cellular Medicine". Mr. Patrick Penndorf, 2nd semester Master student in the "MSc Molecular Medicine" program in Jena, was the only applicant accepted in a worldwide call for applications for the Master Course "Molecular and Cellular Medicine" of the IRCM/University of Montréal (Canada). Under normal circumstances up to seven scholarships are available worldwide. Without the drastic corona-related restrictions, the other two candidates recommended by us would probably have been accepted as well, according to the selection committee of the master course "Molecular and Cellular Medicine" from Montréal. Combined with the one-year study in Montréal, there is the possibility to receive the degree as a double-degree of our two universities.
Mr. Penndorf will begin his one-year studies in Montréal on September 1, 2020. The positive evaluation of Mr. Penndorf's performance and the resulting offer of enrollment is accompanied by a scholarship to finance tuition fees in the amount of 20,000 Canadian dollars.
We wish Patrick every success.
Characteristics of the Course
The lectures, seminars and exercises will be provided in English. Profound knowledge in molecular medicine will be conveyed in the modules Human Genetics, Clinical Chemistry/Molecular Diagnostics, Medical Biometry, Molecular Pathology and Molecular Pharmacology. As a focus, the course offers recent research achievements in Molecular Pathology and Molecular Pharmacology.
A broad selection of special courses enables the exploration of recent knowledge in Molecular and Clinical Medicine including internships in selected hospitals of the University Hospital.
For graduates of Human Medicine the M. Sc. Molecular Medicine opens a special career in experimental research.
Professional Perspectives
On the basis of their profound knowledge in natural sciences and medicine graduates of the M.Sc. Molecular Medicine have access to a broad range of careers in biomedical research institutes, in hospitals, biotechnological companies and in civil service.
A special field of professional activities are research institutes associated to the pharmaceutical industry. This booming branch of industry is currently transforming groundbreaking results of basic life science research into completely novel therapeutic concepts for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, infectional diseases and diseases of the cardiovascular system. Graduates of the M. Sc. Molecular Medicine are urgently needed in different areas of pharmacological research.
Graduates of Human Medicine and the M. Sc. Molecular Medicine are qualified for a special career in Life science Research Institutes and University Hospitals.
