Postgraduate Education
Within the „Sonderforschungsbereich 604“ the Institute of Moleculare Cell Biology was engaged in the foundation of the “Jena Graduate School Molecular Medicine (JSMM) in 2007. This graduate school comprises PhD students of our institutes and students of the „Leibniz Graduate School on Ageing and Age-Related Diseases (LGSA)“ at the Fritz Lipmann Institute as well as selected PhD student of the IZKF. The JSMM hosts about 120 PhD students from 20 countries. These students have a primary affiliation with one of the participating research groups and are enrolled as graduate students at the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena.
The language of the PhD program is English. The duration of the thesis is 3 to 4 years. The doctoral degree is supplemented with a Graduate School certificate.
The Jena International Graduate School of Molecular Medicine (JSMM) offers:
- a scientific training program (lectures and meetings, work-in progress seminars, Journal clubs, exams)
- a mentoring program (each PhD student has a PhD Supervisory committee of three supervisors that meets half-yearly to discuss results and other scientific activities)
