The last year has been characterized by the pandemic of the novel virus SARS-CoV-2. In these demanding times, the Center for Emergency Medicine showed to be an important mainstay for the fight against the pandemic. Every member of the team has provided an exceptional service and has adapted to the ever changing and difficult conditions in a highly professional, prompt, and flexible way. Together with the medical teams of the other departments and units of the University hospital Jena they were able to provide the best possible care for COVID-19 patients as well as for all other emergency patients.

INDEED - Utilization and trans-sectoral patterns of care for patients in emergency care structures in Germany

The goal of INDEED is to characterize patients in emergency departments and preceding and subsequent utilization of transsectoral ambulatory health care services. Frequencies of adequate, inadequate und potentially avoidable utilization of emergency departments will be determined. Subgroups and clusters with similar care profiles will be identified considering triage categories, ambulatory care sensitive conditions, multimorbidity of chronic diseases, demographic information etc.

AKTIN-EZV - Real-time health services research with the AKTIN emergency register

BMBF (NUM) 2020 - 2021

The aim of the collaborative research project AKTIN is to establish a uniform data registry for all Emergency Departments in Germany. The project is based on the Emergency Department data protocol developed by DIVI (German Interdisciplinary Association of Critical Care and Emergency Medicine). Jena University Hospital is one of the 15 institutions, which will develop and pilot the national Emergency Department registry.

ENQuIRE – Evaluation of the quality indicators in emergency rooms for outcome relevance

The aim of „ENQuIRE“ is to evaluate indicators for the quality of medical care of emergency patients for their impact on outcome. Quality data from the emergency department and outcome data from the secondary care provider will be documented and analyzed for a relevant association.

Outstanding achievements

Prof. Wilhelm Behringer has been re-elected to the board of the European Society for Emergency Medicine (EuSEM) and will be the Secretary General of the European Society for Emergency Medicine for the next three years. He has also been appointed to the scientific board and the extended executive board of the German Society for Interdisciplinary Emergency and Acute Medicine (DGINA) and participates in the congress committee for the European Congress for Emergency Medicine 2020 and 2021 of the EuSEM.
